Lisa's Beach Highways

Lisa’s Journey

In 2011, Lisa was in a boating accident that injured her spinal cord and pelvis and left her unable to walk and dependent on a wheelchair. Lisa lived in Florida for 30 years and loved the salt life before her injury. She found it challenging to access the beach as she once knew - sand and wheels do not mix well, she soon found out. Lisa sat at the pier wishing she could go back in time for many years.  Four years ago, on her healing journey, Lisa came across a wheelchair beach mat in Deerfield Beach, FL. Her world changed… it was fate!

Lisa found her purpose and became an advocate for beach accessibility in her area. Lisa contacted municipalities in Palm Beach County. There is now beach access at four locations in Palm Beach County - Oceanfront Park, Lake Worth Beach, Jupiter Inlet Park, and Marina Village in Riviera Beach. Marina Village is the newest and her favorite due to its ability to offer accessible kayaking. They also have available three water wheelchairs so any ability can get wet and go coastal!

Lisa is working on creating a non-profit, and there will be LBH Accessible Water events coming at Marina Village on a sign-up basis. She is currently advocating for more beach accessibility at various municipalities in Florida cities and is bringing her vision and solutions to all beach resorts in FLORIDA!

The Solution

Lisa’s Beach Highways (™) provides the best solutions for accessibility and inclusion based on real-life experience. The accessible travel market is enormous, measured in billions of dollars per year. Disabled people belong to every economic group, and accessibility is the most important factor when booking travel. Offering inclusion for everyone is essential for growth, and it displays goodwill and consumer awareness for every brand.  According to the CDC, of the 78 million baby boomers, 40% or 16 million will be dealing with at least one disability and millions more with chronic illnesses. It is essential to be focusing and redesign inclusion for this market and keep up with growing demand.
